How Having a Definite Purpose can Help with Decisions
I am sitting here on this beautiful Sunday morning thinking…Hmmm, to write or NOT to write. I guess you know the answer to this.
And I think WHY? Why did I choose to write over going to lay down or do something else less productive? So it comes to mind and I think WOW this “Think and Grow Rich” book is so right!
Yes, the reason I say it is because, about a few years ago when I first started reading this book over and over, at least once every few months, something has stuck in my head.
Definite Purpose
That is correct. I have a definite purpose! What does that mean? For those confused and with no idea of what I am talking about. I am about to give you some of the best words of wisdom I’ve ever read and applied to my life. What you do with that wisdom is totally your responsibility. I only desire that you use it wisely and make something of it.
This will help you like it did with me this morning.
Definite Purpose
If you’ve heard the story about “the man who thought himself into partnership with Thomas Edison” in the book, “Think and Grow Rich,” then you already know the characteristics of a definite purpose.
Listen, I’m not going to tell you the whole story, since I’m not the greatest at telling someone else’s story. But basically, Edwin C. Barnes wanted to become a partner of Edison, and he pretty much did it through thoughts and of course through the definite purpose of his desire (to be business partners with Edison). The way he accomplished this wasn’t just by simply thinking about it one day and POW! It happened.
NO.
It was much more complicated than that. Let’s go back to definite purpose and talk about that though and how it applied to me. This morning.
I think; and I usually do that a lot of times. Even right now as I am writing I am thinking of crazy ideas for different blogs and businesses, and even thinking about relaxing and not doing anything. How do you control that you might ask?
Well is my definite purpose. I wrote it down and I carry it with me everywhere I go in my pocket. No I’m not going to say what it is, because there’s a sense of privacy that I have about it. But I will tell you its related to blogging and to becoming successful, and achieving great success in a lot of things.
I am sure that you have something like it too. But can you remember word for word what it is? If I asked you what is your definite purpose right now, would you be able to spit it out in 3-5 minutes verbatim?
You should. Okay just kidding.
I am just saying that as long as you know where you are going then you will get there. That’s why its important to know it. I know what I have to do and I know what I don’t have to do (go and hang out and be lazy) to achieve my definite purpose.
Cool, this is it for today my fellow STATUS QUO REBELS. Tell me, do you have a definite purpose? Or something like it? How important do you think it is? Do you think it’s possible to get somewhere without it?

Hi Wilson,
Yes, I have a definite major purpose.
Like you I bring it with me everywhere I go and I keep it close to the vest. It’s between me and the universe
Thanks for sharing Barnes’ story with us, it should be repeated on a daily basis for those who don’t understand the raw power of thought.

That’s its excellent that we have something in common. Yea I think if you’re NOT discipline enough to keep your thoughts focused on what it is that you want, it’s going to be hard to get what it is that you’re thinking.
