I’m sick of all the crap

I know you might be thinking I’m pissed off or something because I’ve used “effing” on my title, and I’ll be honest, I am a little. And I think you would be too. The people out there that are on my side know what I am talking about. For those who read this post, please don’t think this is some kind of rant, because it’s not. I just want to make it clear that you don’t need to start a blog on blogging, Internet marketing, or how to make money online to actually make money online. I am just going to show you some markets that can plug into and maybe think of ways to make the income you want online.

Wilson, I am flipping tired of seeing all these “make money online products;” show me how to really find an “effing” business to get into.

Okay, let’s get right into it. To not go that far, let’s look at a real business I found recently through Entrepreneur magazine (yes, I still read magazines) and get my entrepreneurial juices flowing; and I recommend anyone that wants to start a business to read it. Anyhow, the name of the company is Ciclismo Classico. Basically, what cicliscoclassico.com does is provide the most authentic, unique and exciting biking and hiking tours and vacations.

So you can maybe get an idea of how Lauren Hefferon started this business, just listen to what she told Entrepreneur.com:

“I found a niche that I knew very well, and knew that I wanted to be in business for myself, so I made the leap.”

That’s basically what you hear me, and every marketer online, tell you to do. – Find a niche you like and know about.

Moving along; looking at what this entrepreneur did, and that was find a market, NOT a product, like some people will tell you to do online. The adventure travel market actually is a 50 billion dollar market, so you know there is a way to tap into it, and it shows that the market BUYS. Going into a market of proven buyers is essential; after all, if you’re starting a business to make a little profit, at least, while providing excellent value, that’s what I hope, your desires are.

You need to have a niche and be passionate about it!

I used this business because it’s really a great example of niche marketing. This company focuses only on one type of adventure; bike tours. The benefits of this are that the company and the clients get to connect on a personal level because they have similar likes. When you are passionate about something that you like, and you decide to start a business relevant to that, it’s easier to know your market; all the market research is YOU.

Here’s my “effing” advice

Turn your passions into a business. Everyone has something that they like doing a lot. Something they do in their spare time, for free. A hobby, a fear, a problem – SOMETHING! If you still don’t think you have something, here are some markets that you can jump into.

Online Boutique

Market: Vintage shoes and dresses

Size: Don’t know exactly how big; just know that this website below made $50 Mil last year.

The opportunity is out there

As you can see these are real businesses making real profits online. You don’t just have to go into some market that you have no passion for to make money online. There is a lot of opportunity to make a difference on the web; we just need to have a remarkable idea combined with something people want and a little love for the niche.

Everything you’ll need to build your first business online.

So after doing the most recent survey one thing that’s seems to be the main thing people want to know is affiliate marketing, how to build a business online and about blogging. It only makes sense to begin giving you guys what you want. After all I am here to make you folks as happy as possible. More importantly give you the best information that you’re looking for. I want to tell you guys that you’re more than welcome to just send me an email whenever you feel like. I get a lot of question throughout the week, but don’t worry I should be able to answer it ASAP. And I also want to thanks those that filled in the survey.

Okay so let’s get started on what this post is about, building a successful business online for the first time. This is not a topic that can just be delivered in one post. Unless I am just going to cut through a lot of important information, but that wouldn’t be fair to you guys. So I am probably going to break this into parts. Don’t worry I am going to make it as easy to understand as I can. I am not a professional writer and English is my second language so bear with me guys.

Spending time with your creative ideas and planning carefully.

Everything starts with an idea if you think about it, but personally I like to get my ideas from my competitors. I am not saying go an copy what they are doing, what I am saying is go to ten or more of your competitors of your niche and look at what they’re doing and what you can do different from them.

You’ll sometimes notice that their sites look similar to each other. This way you can differentiate yourself from them and you can come in with a fresh idea and maybe be seen as a leader or trend setter in your area. Just look at Facebook and Myspace, they are pretty much the same thing, but totally different. They offered the same service basically at first but Facebook changed the way a social site should look and now look at who is the leader.

To get started and get your ideas flowing here’s what I did and what you can do.

1. Look at what passions you might have, what problems you or people have, and look at fears that you have.  Write them down and put them on a list.
2. Go to a mall or shopping center to see what kind of shops are popular or what places do you see yourself shopping at.
3. Look at some of your own skills, can you start a business or create a product based on your skills?
4. What are some trends that you see popping up?  How can you create a business from something popular? 2010 trends( http://www.entrepreneur.com/trends/index.html)
5. Something that frustrates you can be turned into a business where you can solve the issue. A lot of products and services have been started from our own problems.

Building a business on the Internet takes time, a great plan, and a strong foundation. That’s my first part to building a business online. For now that’s all I got, there’s more to come on the next part. I am going to break this into a series that way you guys can absorb all the information. How to Really Make SHIT Happen the Way Successful People do!

Just minutes ago, I read a great post on Erica.biz (How to Manifest Large Sums of Money). By the way, if you’re trying to build a business online and you haven’t checked out Erica’s blog, I command you to do so now! Kidding. It’s your call, but she’s a great inspiration, because by the time she was my age (25 years old) she was getting ready to sell her company for 1.1 Million Bucks…. If you don’t think that’s enough then maybe if you see the zero’s you’ll understand what I am talking about. This is what she could have bought.

Not bad for a 26 year old ha? Okay, back to what I wanted to talk about. Pretty much she gave me a 4 step blueprint to manifest large sums of money. You already know how much I want to manifest. So let’s do the process together.

The first step is to say your goal as if it already is happening, or as you would say it as if the goal has already manifested.

Here is mine: “I am making $10,000 a month online. I am living in Costa Rica. I have a successful blog.”

That was easy; remember though that you must feel it too. In Think and Grow Rich it talks about how important it is to do that. The best way to manifest something is to try to combine as many feeling to your thoughts.

Next step is to acknowledge, then question, the resistance.

Okay so what came out? My resistance is just stupid fears that I have when I get into building a new site and I think I am going to invest all this time into the site and not make any money.

The way I handled that resistance was by acknowledging that if I failed at building certain sites and they didn’t make money then I would just move along and keep going. I mean seriously what’s the worst that can happen? Another thing I am going to do is take more pre-caution and due better due-diligence and invest more time doing my research so I have fewer chances to fail.

Okay we’re almost done, stay with me, if you’re serious about this then you’re still here. Here’s step three.

Obviously this step starts today because you need to do it every night. And since I just read the blog post I can really say much about it, other than tell you what to do. Here it is:

Do it consistently – Every night, at least 20 minutes a night or more. Here’s exactly what she said if you don’t understand me exactly.

“I did this night after night, sometimes spending 20 minutes or more in a question-answer state with my body. After several nights, I no longer felt resistance. I continued every day, sometimes more than once a day, to state, “I am making $40,000 per month.” It got to the point where I was really excited to state this!”

Finally guys the last part.

Start making your external reality matches your ideal reality. Then repeat all the steps – I guess these two last steps I will have to get back to you on them because I really don’t know how to handle these yet. I have to actually do them to talk to you about them. Which, I will talk about in a post later on.

Okay that’s pretty much all I have. I was just really inspired and I had to express my feelings after that post. So many times I leave a thought hanging and I forget about it. Now that you have this, take it and run with it.

Do you know what the best way is? If you don’t, you are wasting time and a lot of money. But that will change once you read this post.

It’s really not that big of a secret, if you’ve been studying Internet marketing for a few months and you’ve been listening to the right people. Some people still don’t know though, because they are too busy doing the “get-rich-quick stuff.”

And to be honest, I don’t blame them. That’s what most opportunity marketers will pitch you, and all these newbies really think they’re doing the right thing. So don’t be mad at them. Eventually they’ll hit that wall and realize that they’re not doing it right.

How do I know this? Because I first learned about making money online from a friend, that really thought he was teaching me the right way to make an honest living online. But I knew there was something wrong with it. This method I am talking about is “cash gifting;” I can’t believe I am confessing this to you, but I feel like I have to. The good news is that I really never got to make a dollar from this business, but I did gift my “friend” $150 that he never gave back, he told me it was a gift that I gave to him and it was a legal agreement.

I’d rather not put his name out there, I am not that type of person, but recently I found him on Facebook and it’s sad to see that he’s still working with these get-rich-quick schemes that people keep falling into. It’s amazing how the FTC has not cracked down on these types of programs.

Anyway, now let’s talk about some positive stuff. What I really wanted to talk about was affiliate programs, and why I think they’re the best way to make money online long-term.

The reason I like affiliate programs so much is:

You can have basically become an affiliate site of any topic and sell anything suitable to that site. You don’t have to have so many readers, be ranked super high, or be super popular to make money from them. You can make your content extremely relevant with your content. And you don’t have to have massive traffic to make a good income from them.

Now the best combination that has worked great for me is taking an affiliate product and building a blog around it. What some people would call it a niche site. Basically what you do is, write relevant content that relates to the affiliate product you’re promoting and put links and banners of the product around the content, and drive a lot of organic traffic to the pages of the site.

It’s a formula that has worked extremely well for me so far. I am not making thousands of dollars like some of the big names online, but it’s growing slowly. Let’s just say that the more work you put in the more that comes out.

My best advice to avoid building spammy sites

One thing that I hate the most is going to some site online and knowing immediately that it is an affiliate site. That’s kind of an oxymoron, but what I mean is that the site alone doesn’t really guide me or anything it’s just pretty much saying all over the place click on the ads, that’s all. I believe that your VALUE/PROMOTION ratio should be 10/1. If not your customer/visitor’s BS alert is going to come up. I know that you’ve been in those blogs where you click away the moment you get there, don’t do the same.

Your site should say, “Here’s some great content about the product and the topic, how else can I help you?”

Quick tips for the best affiliate product + blog combination

Make your content unique and extremely relevant – Search engines love it, but more importantly, the readers!

Guide your readers – Helping your readers know what to do next will eventually lead them to the sale. Have calls to action at the end of the posts, or even in the middle. (In some markets, people need a quick solution)

Don’t have a flashy site – You know how annoying that can be, where the ad flashes to get people’s attention. (Let MySpace do that, people are not stupid, they know what that ad is trying to do), instead make it flow with the content (Let it be natural).

Keep it up with the trends – People follow what’s hot, make sure your site doesn’t look like it’s 1999.

Humanize the site – I don’t like going to sites that look like there’s nobody behind them. I think that’s why I like blogs so much better than regular sites. Write like you’re talking to a friend.  (Make it have its own personality)

I’ve really become a fan of doing affiliate marketing with blogs and I really want to become a master of it. My main goal is to really help the newbies so they don’t make the mistakes we all make when we come into this make money online niche. I think it only hurts the reputation of the Internet if people keep learning the wrong methods of making a living online.

The two main currencies that make everything possible are cash flow and time. How many times have you heard, “You need to have a muse, or passion to be successful online” or something like it? I know that’s all I heard when I was first getting started online. It was hard, sometimes annoying, NOT knowing what I wanted to do.

When you first get started online all you want to know is…

How do I make a lot of money online, right? How do I monetize? Money, money, money…

That’s all we want.

When we should really be focusing on is how to generate an income stream and free more time for ourselves.

I’ll repeat that:

What I want to do is explain the simplest, fastest, and most affordable way that anyone with any experience online can do what I do.

In my mind the best way is to do it with affiliate marketing. The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you own a business and you don’t have to spend any time on it. You don’t have to run it. And that’s what location independence is all about.

You could make a lot of money with a franchise or any sort of physical store, but that’s not what I want to do and if you’re like me you don’t either. And I’ve done it, and it’s not what I had in mind; I didn’t want to be in one place at all.

I’ve started a series that I have to still finish, here are the two parts that you should be reading as soon as you’re done with this post to get your career going with affiliate marketing if your goal is to one day not have to worry about money.  Just imagine what you would do, if you didn’t have to consume time with customers? That’s the kind of vehicle affiliate marketing is:

These two articles can help you find your muse and show you how to convert it into cash flow.

So the next thing is TIME. I think one of the best things that has worked for me is the act of eliminating. What I mean by this is getting rid of the TV, iPhone (I gave that to my girlfriend), and even my car too. I haven’t really gotten rid of them, but I’ve forced myself NOT to use them for most of the week.  I’ve learned to spend the majority of my days on work that matters and that gives me the best results. Of course there has been a lot of trial and error in the past year, but I guess that’s how I’ve learned.

If you can identify what it is that you’re wasting your time on each day and eliminate those tasks, I guarantee you that you’ll start seeing results too, if you use that time wisely on your business, blog, or whatever it is that you do that brings in the cash.

Other habits and time wasters you can eliminate, to free some time:

• Checking your email 10 times a day
• Using twitter to often with no agenda
• Pointless breaks and naps
• Mindless web surfing

Wilson Usman’s recent series of posts about Readers Who Want To Know How to Earn Money Online got me thinking recently that with the arrival of August comes the 1 year anniversary of my own entrance into internet marketing and that there’s probably a lot of readers out there who are in the same boat as I was. As cliche as it might sound, it really is hard to believe that it’s been one year since I was unhappily working at my 9-5 job. I remember surfing the internet in the odd hours of the night for months on end trying to find the right kind of internet business to get into. This isn’t a post about how one year later I’ve turned an affiliate site into an empire, because that didn’t happen. This post is about the mistakes I made and the lessons I learned from having jumped into a world I knew very little about, and how you can prepare yourself for the challenges that lie ahead. We all have to start somewhere.

Did my affiliate make back what I paid for it? Nope. Do I regret having spent a good amount of money on a niche that I knew nothing about? Hell no. Did I learn a heck of a lot? Oh hell yes.

In August of 2009 I bought the domain and web site carinsurancequoter.com on Flippa.com for a price that most would be shocked at for a complete newbie to pay. I desperately wanted to get into the game and hit the ground running, so I took the plunge.

Great domain and great niche right? Wrong. If you’ve been doing this awhile you’ll know that’s one of the most highly competitive niches on the internet. That’s lesson-learned #1.

1) I got into a niche without doing the proper niche market research. Car Insurance quotes are insanely competitive because there are 11 million searches per month just for car insurance. Car insurance quotes gets close to a million. As an affiliate you’re competition with the companies your advertising for keyword ranking in Google. I’ll stop at saying its impossible, but there are much easier niches to get into. Lesson learned: Do your research and make sure your getting into a market where there is high demand and low competition.

2) I didn’t get my feet wet enough (ie. I didn’t do enough of the work myself). I outsourced everyone and wanted to be the Virtual CEO by just pulling the strings every now and then.. It doesn’t work that way. If you want to be king pin you’ve got to get into the trenches and learn about WordPress code a little (for example). Not saying you need to be a ninja, but you should be an apprentice. Get a holistic understanding of areas like web design, Google adwords, search engine optimization, and social media marketing. Why? Because having that knowledge means that when you do have the ability to hire someone, for example, you know how to call the shots because you know what to ask for. I spent hundreds on getting articles written that I could have written myself. I came close to spending thousands on SEO when my site clearly wasn’t ready for it and I had no idea what SEO really was and how it worked.

3) I didn’t really care about car insurance. Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk is about cashing in on your passion. I’m passionate about internet business and marketing but let’s just I don’t dream about car insurance at night. I’ve been told before you decide to go in any niche, even if its truly not what your passionate about, at least be mildly interested. It will payoff in the long run.

4) I decided to learn as I went along. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with learning by doing. I actually went knee deep and threw myself into it by naively going into an area I didn’t understand. But I knew nothing about affiliate marketing at that point. What I should have done was taken some of the excellent internet marketing courses out there so I could be better prepared. I hear great things about Internet Business Mastery and Niche Profit Classroom, and I’m currently taking part in the 30 Day Challenge.

5) There’s no such thing as turnkey. Building an affiliate site takes time, effort and patience. Over time you will get better at it and end up creating more with less time and effort, but thats not until you’ve become good at it. Don’t ever expect that you’ll be rolling in profits your first time out. That’s the mistake I made.

6) I didn’t set any limits. I didn’t set limits on how much I want to spend, so I ended up spending too much money on things like Adwords, Facebook ads, etc. Even though it was money spent on experimentation, setting limits would have kept me more focused and ensure I don’t blow my budgets out of the water. Set yourself a limit on how long it will take to profitable. If your niche is working out after 6 months, leave it and come back to it later.

Don’t get me wrong, my affiliate site is not a failure and actually does earn me more than I put into it. Looking back at my mistakes I made I’m glad I made them and I’ve learned some very powerful lessons and that’s what I came out with in the end result, I came out with an experiment (or prototype, or crash test dummy, whatever you want to call it, ) and not an extremely profitable business. And I think that’s what every person who wants to make money online should do – go out and there and build an experiment and have fun with it, without blowing the bank. Above all, just learn from it.

If you’re thinking of getting into the web business game, just take the plunge and do something. Chances are you might lose a bit of money, or build a site that doesn’t work despite having done all the research. The point is to get started, and you’ll already be halfway there.

What is Infobarrel?

Infobarrel is simply a revenue sharing site, where you make money by writing articles and get paid through adsense ads, amazon, or chitika ads. There are more popular crowdsourcing sites like these, but infobarrel.com is slowly creeping up to the ranks of squidoo, and hubpages.

Infobarrel Review

Over the past few weeks I’ve been analyzing what’s going on in this site because I have a few articles that I wrote there; and I’ve slowly seen how much traffic the articles have been getting. To be totally honest it has exceeded my expectations and I am considering putting myself to the challenge of writing for a full month to see how much income it can bring through adsense. I wanted to show you some of the statistics of the site so that you can see for yourself how great they’re doing.

Fast-Growing
You can see here that over the past year the growth of infobarrel.com has been exponential. For somebody that makes money online through other sites like eHow or Hubpages, signing up is a no brainer, because the earnings could be great here.

Infobarrel Earnings

The money that is being made here is almost shocking for a site this young. Some members are making $1000 plus a month from this site with little amount of articles. It’s normal to hear those number for high ranking sites like squidoo or eHow but not for a site with low PR. That’s unheard of!

By taking advanatge of this opportunity now, when the site reaches the PR rankings of those other sites can mean a lot more money for the members. Which is Positive!

Infobarrel Product Review  (Not an affiliate link)

Info barrel Success is a product that was created by Howie Romans and Jason Mayer. I actually ran into this product through a recommendation from Pat Flynn’s Blog- smartpassiveincome.com. (visit if you haven’t)

Basically, anything that Pat say’s, I do. It’s like the Simon Says game. But that’s only because I have so much trust in Pat and he always gives the greatest tips and they work…back to the review.

I took a look at this product and it totally took me through a SEO boot-camp. I never knew the importance of SEO in my articles, but since reading Infobarrel’s success I’ve applied the tips and my articles have performed much better in the search engines, bringing me more traffic.
