I recently started a blog to document everything I do online. What I like, tools I use, books I read, other blogs that I read and much more. This just really a page that I wish I would’ve had back when I started working online. I think anyone just getting started online will get a ton of helpful tools to get started on their first online business. I you enjoy reading business books and ebooks I placed some of my favorites which a lot of them are free.
How I Make It Happen, and How You Will!!
Books
- The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss, Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich: This was the first book that got me inspired to quit my job. I use to work 60-80 hours a week and I hated it, but somehow I had an assumption that in able to become wealthy I just had to work longer than other people. In this book I learned that I could work less and make more.
- The E-Myth by Michael Gerber: – If you want to learn to be a great Entrepreneur this book will teach you everything. This is the best description for this book: A guide to success for small business owners.
- Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion by Gary Vaynerchuk: – If it wasn’t for Garyvee as he is called you wouldn’t be reading this blog. I read his book basically in the book store in two hours because I couldn’t stop, I was HOOKED! Anyway I came home and I registered my first blog wilsonusman dot com. The rest is history!
- Rework by Jason Fried & David Heinemeier Hansson: – Another book that just came out this year about Entrepreneurship. Business is not what everyone thinks. Everything these guys say in this book is the opposite of what everyone says entrepreneurship should be, and I like it!
- Linchpin “Are you Indispensable?” : by Seth Godin – I read everything Seth Godin will put out there from Purple Cow to All marketers are liars tell stories. What I learned after reading is that there’s really not that many jobs (where you’re told what to do) that will pay you good. The old way of doing business no longer works you have to be indispensable if you are working for someone else or you’re self-employed.
Web Hosting
- HostGator: Its easy to use and it’s really affordable if you’re just starting out. Easy to use, 1-click automatic WordPress installation, and good customer service. Unlimited disk space and bandwidth, FREE site building tools and templates if you’re new, 24/7/365 Technical Support, are three reasons I like them. Here is my coupon code “funlifestyle”.
- Bluehost: Another nice and quick to use hosting service. And it also includes 1-click WordPress installation. I like it because you get a free domain name when you first host a website with them. It’s only $10 you save, but hey….every penny counts.
- PowWeb: Four reasons why you’ll like them. Dependable hosting with good support. One-click WordPress installation. A lot of storage and bandwidth. Competitive pricing.
Domain Name
- Godaddy” title=: I went with Godaddy.com because they are all over the place and I just like Danica Patrick. No really they are just well known and trusted.
Blog Set-up and Software
- WordPress: I didn’t know what blogging was. WordPress made it extremely easy to understand and use, with extraordinary support. I won’t use any other content management system (CMS).
- Woothemes: I found my theme here. It really is hard not to find a theme you will like. Find premium quality WordPress themes here.
Email Management & Marketing
- Aweber: The Internet’s most powerful email opt-in service and email marketing/broadcasting tool. You can’t run an online business if you don’t have this tool.
- Su.pr: This tool makes it so easy to know if you’re message is being heard or not. You simply tweet your message and see how many people on your link. It’s that easy and it’s free!
Keyword Research Tools
- Seo Keyword Ranking: This is a great interface that you can use to keep track of your keywords and see how they are doing.
- Google Adwords Keyword Tool: I use this tool mainly to see the popularity of a niche or keyword and you can find more information like the competition and other related keywords.
- Wordtracker Free Keyword Tool: Another great tool for doing search on keywords. You simply plug in the word and get the number of how popular your keyword is and gives you other phrases that are relevant.
Extra tools
- Seo Book Keyword Suggestion Tool: Great keyword research tool, with more information and numbers to compare and select the perfect keywords.
Website Tracking
- Google Analytics: I think that almost all of google free tools are awesome, this one in particular. Free website tracking and analytical tool. This is a “MUST HAVE” for anyone with any type of website.
- Google Website Optimizer: Pretty cool that you can do with this free Google tool is keep track of which site converts better. You can have two sites with the same content, but one or two different things changed. It’s a website testing tool.
Outsourcing your Work
- Elance: Find and expert that will get all the job done for you.
- oDesk” target=: Great outsource website for freelancers, IT companies, programmers and web designers from abroad. Just like Elance, I like to use both.
- 99designs: You need a logo for your website or blog? Well if you want a ton of designs to pick from this website is really cool. The designers compete to get your business.
Internet Business Course
- Internet Business Mastery: A lot of the stuff I’ve learned about online is thanks to these two guys.
E-commerce & Shopping Carts
- Paypal: Their service is okay if you want to sell your own products and receive payments through them. But if you’re going to sell products from these shopping carts below you’ll an account to accept payment as well.
- E-Junkie: I am working on a couple of e-books right now and I am going to be selling them through here. Its compatible with most of the shopping carts (Google Checkout, Authorize.net, Clickbank & TrialPay, 2CheckOut,Paypal Standard,Paypal Pro.)
- Clickbank: This is for sure the most popular of all digital products retailer, you probably already know a lot about it. And the affiliate programs are off the hook.
